The world and the characters that J. R. R. Tolkien created in his "Lord of the Rings" trilogy are unique in their detail. Peter Jackson has brought them at least as much to the screen in his film adaptation. However, he and his team often had to take the story a little further, for example when it came to the design of the costumes. Sauron's armour, for example, has become absolutely iconic and perfectly underlines his sinister character. Yet you won't find a single word of description about it in the books. So artists John Howe and Alan Lee had to get creative themselves and, together with some colleagues, designed the helmet with the crown-like spikes and the rest of the finely crafted armour.
