Do you remember your old physics lessons? And those boring old experiments with magnets? Oh look... this magnet attracts metal filings!
Yawwwwn. How amazing and spectacular... NOT!!
Want to play with magnets that are way cooler? Well, if you pulverize a magnet and then dissolve it in water, you get something called Ferrofluid which will enable you to perform exciting and fun experiments with magnetic fields!
The nano-sized particles in the Ferrofluid respond in a very lively way to magnetic fields. The stronger the magnetic field, the more impressive the Ferrofluid reacts. You can see in the main picture that the Ferrofluid creates fascinating, spike-like forms even with a relatively weak magnet. In the video, a relatively strong magnet was used. Making it pretty epic, right? And certainly no comparison to those boring metal filings in your old physics lessons :)
The possibilities of experimenting are almost unlimited. You can make up new and exciting ways of exposing the Ferrofluid to magnets: –on a sheet of glass, in different containers, horizontally or vertically... really, whatever you can think of. Each time the result is sure to amaze.
But do be a little careful: Due to its heavy oil-like consistency, take care not to spill the liquid anywhere, like on clothes for example as– it can get a little messy.
Go for the wonderfully fun Ferrofluid, and enjoy hours of impressive magnetic fields experiments! And if you're a physics teacher, we heartily recommend you no longer torment your pupils with anachronistic (booooring!) experiments! Instead, fire your kids with enthusiasm for the mysteries of physics with the help of Ferrofluid.
